Square envelopes always require extra postage. Visit your local post office for exact postage requirements. If your piece is thick, perhaps a wedding invitation, or from using ribbon or other embellishments, make sure to bring a sample to your local post office. Though it may fit in a standard envelope, once weighed, it may require added postage. The size of the piece, as well as the thickness, effects postage cost.
Postcards are a fun and cost-effective way to send invitations or receive RSVPs. Postage rates for postcards are about 10 cents cheaper than standard mail. If you’re mailing a lot of items, or working within a budget, those savings can add up. To be eligible for postcard rates your card can be no larger than 6" x 4.25" and no smaller than 5" x 3.5". Not only do you save money on postage, but you also save on an extra envelope. Be sure to use at least an 80# cardstock to be sure your postcard doesn’t get beaten up in the mail.
Your local post office, or usps.com can provide you with additional information and postal rate updates.
